Brave Bailey loses fight for life after wasp attack in Haxby

Back in July ,13 and half year old Bailey was walking with his owner Sarah Stelling in the West Nooks area by the River Foss when wasps attacked.

He ended up in the water after being badly stung trying to defend his family.

Fire Crews from Malton and Huntington rescued Bailey after he was unable to get out of the river. He was taken back to the bank in an inflatable boat.

At the time it was thought he would recover but the stings were very severe and he never really got over it.

Writing on Facebook today Sarah said

Its with great sadness that I have to announce that my beautiful brave dog Bailey has had to be put to sleep today.

He has not recovered since the horrific wasp attack on the Foss river bank near west nooks area late July ,where my big brave beautiful boy took the brunt of the stings from the wasps to save me and my 4children .

I have and am sure I will never have a loyalist friend as him . Fly high my boy and keep watch over us . Love u to the moon and back .xxxxxx

Also thanks to the people of Haxby who keep asking after him x

She told Minster FM that the council need to look at what happened and take action against wasp nests and provide life belts on that part of the Foss too.

She fears that a child or adult could end up stung and fall into the river and like Bailey not be able to get out.
